The Planet Purbeck Land Use Team needs a team of people to help undertake traditional hedge-laying as part of our Hedgerow and Wood Pasture project. Keeping hedges thick and dense is the number one tip for a healthy hedge and we have lots of hedges that need this boost for the thousands of species that rely on them.
What's on offer?
We are offering two days of free hedge-laying training with two qualified hedge-layers who have a plentiful supply of knowledge, expertise, tools and good cheer! There will be scrub clearing and hedge laying so be prepared for plenty of snipping and cutting.
Who can join hedge-laying training?
We can offer places to 10 people to attend both training days, who would be prepared to use these skills for ongoing essential hedge-laying work with Planet Purbeck, initially around Wilkswood Farm (in Langton Matravers) as part of its environmental plan. Langton residents are especially welcome! No prior experience is necessary but it would help if you are comfortable using hand tools.
When is it?
Saturday 22 January and Saturday 29 January 2022, exact time tbc. Just when you want to be outdoors working off some mince pies!
Where is it?
Langton Allotments field, at the end of Garfield Lane, Langton Matravers. Exact meeting place tbc.
What to bring?
All the tools will be provided; you'll just need warm outdoor clothes, work gloves (again these can be provided), steel toe-capped boots if you have them (otherwise let us know your size and we'll try to fix you up with a pair), some snacks, drinks and plenty of enthusiasm for a fun day outside doing great work for nature!
