IMAGINE-BETTER: WELLY WALKS

Welly Walks is part of a creative research project that aims to engage people in new narratives about the British weather.

You are invited to wear a pair of weather sensing audio wellies and immerse yourself in a journey that provokes new thoughts about the weather. The wellies are equipped with a speaker, a micro-controller and a sensor that detects weather conditions. They play specific pre-recorded eco-poetry that relates to the weather.

The project aims to engage people with alternative weather narratives. Feel inspired to have a deeper connection with the natural world. By combining wearable technology and eco-poetry, Welly Walks invites you to explore your relationship with the weather within the broader context of the climate emergency.

The project has been created by PhD candidate and designer-researcher, Alice Stevens. It has been developed in collaboration with writer and storyteller, Zakiya McKenzie, and creative technologist, Mark Benson.
