The first-ever Planet Purbeck Festival took place over one week in September 2021 to an audience of over 1000 people. We gathered together the best sustainable businesses and organisations from all across Purbeck to give our festivals goers a choice of over 200 events during this period. Activities ranged from nature walks and workshops to inspirational talks on community projects and the science behind our environmental crisis.
The theme of the festival was “A Celebration of our Natural World” and each event supported this goal by educating, enthusing and connecting people with their local environment.
The Planet Purbeck Festival is run by the community, for the community.
Many local people recognise that our natural assets are under threat and something needs to be done. We approached this problem by creating a fun and enthusiastic platform that invites the community to connect with their environment and foster a relationship with it; the more we care about our world; the more we will protect it.
The festival increased our membership base by a massive 30%. Many of the businesses and organisations involved reported an increased interest in their activities during and after the festival too.
From survey evidence, after the event, we understand that 70% of attendees were inspired to make changes to their lifestyle to positively impact the planet.
Nearly 90% of people said that the festival increased their awareness of environmental matters.
The 2022 festival will go ahead!
We recognise the important impact that the festival has made and we want to continue to promote a connection and understanding between festival-goers and the organisations that are working hard to protect our natural world.
